Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, Incorporated Gamma Chapter was founded in Indianapolis, Indiana and chartered in February 1946. Gamma Chapter is a part of the Magnificent Mid-Western Region and the third chartered chapter of Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, Incorporated. In 2026, Gamma Chapter celebrates its 80th Anniversary.

The national organization of Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, Incorporated was founded in February 1943 at Lewis Business College (Lewis College of Business) in Detroit, Michigan by Elizabeth A. Garner, an instructor at the college, and her biological sister, Dr. Violet T. Lewis, owner and president of the college. Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, Incorporated has chapters organized across the United States and beyond. Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, Incorporated strives to improve the economic, social, and political status of women; to motivate the members to further their education and training to improve the relationships amongst all women of all races and creeds to be of greater service to the community in which they live and work as well as in communities across the nations that fosters our unique sisterhood.

Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, Incorporated Gamma Chapter supports charities and organizations whose mission and vision are parallel to those of Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, Incorporated in serving humanity. This support is accomplished through time, talent, and treasures. The members of Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, Incorporated Gamma Chapter supports programs whose goals are focused on addressing the economic, educational, vocational, and social barriers that exist amongst those living and working in the Indianapolis community.

Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, Incorporated Gamma Chapter supports the mission and purpose of organizations such as the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the National Council of Negro Women, the United Negro College Fund, and the Indianapolis Urban League. Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, Incorporated Gamma Chapter also supports programs creating awareness in arts and culture, providing shelter and resources for unhoused individuals, and critical programs including education, advocacy, and direct assistance for those affected by sickle cell in our community.

Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, Incorporated Gamma Chapter adopts an Indianapolis Public School each year to provide financial support and volunteers in recognition of the dedication and hard work of our teachers and administrators in improving the lives of our youth.
