Gamma Chapter was chartered February 1946 in Indianapolis, Indiana in the Magnificent Mid-Western Region and the third chartered chapter of Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, Incorporated. In 2026, Gamma Chapter celebrates its 80th Anniversary.

Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, Incorporated was founded in February 1943 by Elizabeth A. Garner, and her sister, Dr. Violet T. Lewis at Lewis Business College in Detroit, Michigan. The late founders, Elizabeth A. Garner and Dr. Violet T. Lewis, along with eleven other members who were also teachers at the college, are known as the Sorority's 13 Original Pearls.​​​​​

Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, Incorporated’s Purpose

The purpose of this organization: Organized exclusively for charitable, religious, educational, and scientific purposes, including, for such purposes, the making of distributions to organizations that qualify as exempt organizations described under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or corresponding section of any future federal tax code (restated 09-15-2015).

Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, Incorporated was founded in February 1943 at Lewis Business College (Lewis College of Business) in Detroit, Michigan by Elizabeth Garner, an instructor at the college, and her biological sister, Dr. Violet T.
